Grinding Instructions

The regrinding of the tungsten carbide button bits, or rather the re-profiling of the buttons should be made when  the wear of the tungsten carbide button is maximum half the button diameter.

Periodic Bit Reconditioning
Periodic bit reconditioning will prolong a button bit's ability to produce the greatest total meterage at the fastest penetration rate. Reconditioning involves re-profiling the tungsten carbide buttons and restoring the gauge relief taper using Diaroc/Scandia or Super Diaroc Tools and removing the body steel to give the  button the correct protrusion using Boroscan Tools.
General Points
The Diaroc/Scandia and Super Diaroc diamond tools with their built-in arc profile are in the grinding process performing a reprofiling of the  worn button back to the original factory profile.
Restore the Profile of the Button
When re-profiling the buttons with the Diaroc / Scandia and Super Diaroc Tools move the grinding machine in circular movements.

For each size of the tungsten carbide button bit a corresponding diamond tool is to be applied in the grinding re-profiling process.

The grinding re-profiling with the Diaroc/ Scandia and Super Diaroc should always be done with water flushing. Adjust the water valve for proper water feed. Correct feed is when the drips are joining up in a small stream.

Proper Grinding Machine

The method of re-profiling is quickly and efficiently carried out using the new VS-200 or VS-260 Hand-Held Air Grinders in conjunction with Diaroc/Scandia and Boroscan tools at a working speed under load of approximately 20,000 rpm. It is essential that this tool is always used with adequate supply of oil in the air supply.
